Google brings another important new feature to Hangouts Chat, but only on Android
Google has just announced that its not yet defunct Hangouts Chat service is getting a brand new feature that should have been available a long time ago – the ability to delete a conversation history. The update that adds this new function is already live on Android, but not on other platforms, at least for the time being.
As Google mentions, the latest version of Hangouts Chat allows users to delete conversation history of 1:1 direct messages. Moreover, the Mountain View company confirms that these deletions will apply to 1:1 conversations between classic Hangouts and Hangouts Chat in both directions.
There's one other thing that you should bear in mind – you'll only be deleting your copy of the conversation history, which means other users will still be able to see the chat.

According to developers, the full rollout of the new feature will take a few days starting on March 11, so be patient if you don't see it on your device yet. Also, the ability to delete 1:1 conversation history of direct messages will be available on all platforms, not just on Android.
