Google Drive update ends support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, introduces a cool new feature
A new Google Drive update has ended support for Android devices running version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Drive comes pre-loaded on all non-forked Android devices and is one of Google's core products. According to the latest official Google Play numbers, 1.6% of all Android devices run some version of Ice Cream Sandwich.
The changelog for a recent Google Drive update on Google Play reads that this will be the last version to support devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Here's an excerpt from the changelog:
This is the last supported release of Drive for Android on all Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) devices. Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) users will receive no further updates to Drive on Android.
Aside from the usual range of performance improvements and bug fixes, the same update introduces a few noteworthy features, the most important of which being the newfound ability to create home screen shortcuts for files. Furthermore, users now receive comment notifications and more easily upgrade their storage plans from inside the app.
What do you guys think, is anyone excited about the ability to create home screen shortcuts for their favorite files? Will Google's decision to drop support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich affect you?
