Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for Android getting Material Theme redesign
Google continues to expand the Material Theme to more apps. This time a set of three apps are getting the new redesign at the same time: Docs, Sheets, and Slides. All three updates that bring these major visual changes should now be available for download via Play Store, after being rolled out to select users two months ago.
As 9to5google points out, the first thing you'll notice when you open one of the three apps is the lack of the bottom bar. Well, they're actually there, but they're now colorless (white to be more precise), so harder to spot. The new design brings a new set of Material Theme icons for “New document” and “Choose template.”
Although the updated Material Theme design brings important visual changes, it doesn't affect the apps' functionality. Not many tabs have been relocated, so you'll find everything in the same place as last time you've checked any one of these apps.
The multi-colored FAB has been kept and positioned in the bottom-right corner. Also, the nav bar features all the functionality from the previous versions, so you'll be able to access features like Shared with me, Starred, Recent, Offline files, Trash, Notifications, Settings, and Google Drive.
The bottom line is that aside from the obvious visual improvements, the update doesn't bring any other changes, so considers this just a simple revamp that brings the apps in line with Google's new design language.
