Gingerbread coming to the DROID Charge on November 29th
Samsung and Verizon are bringing DROID Charge owners some holiday cheer a little early this year. On November 29th, a software update will be available for the device that includes a number of feature upgrades, but most importantly, will upgrade the handset to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The update is reported to be 119MB and will upgrade the phone to version i510.EP4.

Droid Life has obtained the full change sheet from Verizon (which can be viewed in its entirety below). Some of the highlights of this release include:

  • Updated Download Manager app – from where you can manage all of your downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps.
  • Improved word selection and Copy/Paste functionality.
  • New widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors.
  • Added device and SD card encryption; VPN enhancements integrate IPSec VPN clients into device security settings.
  • Updated Calendar options – ability to display event times in your home time zone when traveling; Dismiss individual reminders.
  • Pause, Wait and Password have been added into the voicemail speed dial entry for manual entry/storage.
  • Increased intensity of the vibration alert.
  • Added Software Upgrade Assistant (SUA).
  • Reduced volume of the Low Battery Notification sound has been reduced.
