Gilded Oppo R5 goes to war with the iPhone 6 on Valentine's Day
The Oppo R5 is one of the Chinese maker's finest (if flawed) handsets, and it's rather unique as well with its second-thinnest-in-world 0.19in (4.85mm) profile. Being a premium offering in its lineup, it makes sense for Oppo to be pushing it globally, especially since it fares well as a direct iPhone 6 competitor. As such, the Oppo R5 is about to face the first major challenge in the life of a self-proclaimed iPhone killer - the Valentine's Day shopping rush!
As February 14, 2015 is shaping as another long day of significant others swinging engraved iPhones left and right, Oppo is dressing the R5 in gold with the hope of wooing customers towards its slim, elegant phone. Only the handset's aluminum frame gets the royal paint job, though. The rest of the goods stays the same.
Apart from its pleasant rectangular design, the Oppo R5 offers 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC and 2GB RAM processing power, a 13MP main camera, a 5MP front cam, and a 2000mAh battery, which we had to critique for its sub-par longevity. This is offset somewhat by the fast VOOC charger, which restores 75% of the battery in 30 minutes.
The gold Oppo R5 will launch February 14. It doesn't seem to be up for pre-order right now, however.
