Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge on T-Mobile get October 2016 Android security patches
Samsung is committed to providing two years of software updates and three years of security updates for its devices, extending their lives beyond the typical two-year span. Thus, after receiving an update to Android Marshmallow in June, Samsung's aging Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge are getting Google's October 2016 Android security patches.
T-Mobile units are receiving the 251MB over-the-air update as we speak, and it contains bug fixes and optimizations in addition to the security patches. T-Mo is keeping a good pace with Samsung, as Verizon, for example, only published the September 2016 security patch for these devices a week and a half ago.
If you are on T-Mo's network and haven't received the update yet, do a manual check by going to the Settings, System, About device, System updates menu and tapping Check for new system update. Alternatively, the smartphones can be updated through a computer by using Samsung's Smart Switch desktop app.
