Full-sized QWERTY keyboard launched for iPhone
We recently reported on ION's musical keyboard for the iPhone. Plugging your iPhone into the cut out space at the top of the keyboard turns your handset into a music studio complete with a synthesizer, 2 dozen MIDI samples and controls to change pitch and modulation. Now ION has another keyboard for you to plug your iPhone in to. This time it is a QWERTY keyboard called iType, a full-sized physical unit that turns the handset into a sit-down Mac. If you've been waiting for a catch, well, we won't disappoint you. Because the iPhone's OS won't recognize keystrokes from a third party keyboard, you must use the iType's companion app and type into that first. Then you take what you've written and push it into your email or copy it to your clipboard for later use. Not the best way to do things, but with the iPhone-at least for now-it's the only way. No pricing has been officially released for the iType, but Mobile Crunch hears that it looks like the keyboard will run about $100.
