Free Ovi Maps finally hits the Nokia N97
We knew that it would’ve been just a matter of time after Nokia’s announcement of offering free Ovi Maps to customers that one of their premier handsets would be graced with it. The Nokia N97 for a period of time has been considered one of the high end smartphone contenders out there, thanks to the announcement, Ovi Maps 3.3 with free navigation popped up on the Software Update applications folder. Initially it was expected to land in the form of a firmware update, now it’s being made very accessible to handset owners – it’ll take up a huge chunk of space on your device; so it’s not recommended for download if you’re down to less than 30MB of free space. Unlike Google Maps with Navigation on some Android handsets that require active data connections to download maps, Ovi Maps with voice turn-by-turn guidance is stored locally and supports 74 countries in 46 languages. Now maybe it may be a good time to retire that dedicated GPS unit you might have and opt to try out Ovi Maps on your Nokia N97.
