Fossil promises to bring new battery saver modes to older Gen smartwatches

Fossil introduced new Fossil Gen 5 smartwatches earlier today, and one of the features that's unique to these wearable devices is the proprietary battery saver mode. Since Google doesn't offer such a feature on Wear OS by default, Fossil designed four battery modes that offer users more freedom when it comes to how they want their smartwatch to function.

These four battery saver modes – Extended Battery, Daily, Custom, and Time Only, are only available on the new Fossil Gen 5 smartwatches at the moment, but if you've recently bought a previous generation Fossil smartwatch, then you're in luck.

Droid-life reports that Fossil has just confirmed via a tweet that the battery saver modes will be coming to previous generations through a software update later this year. This will probably be a staged rollout, so not all older Fossil smartwatches will get the update at the same time, but we can expect a bunch of them (if not all) to receive it by the end of the year.

TicWatch smartwatches offer similar battery saver modes, but they are tweaked around the fact that they come with two displays instead of just one, while Fossil's proprietary battery saver modes are purely software. In any case, if you love your previous generation Fossil smartwatch, don't upgrade to a new one just because you want this new feature, at least not yet.
