Fool your friends, family and neighbors with the DROID X Android 2.2 lock screen
With the Motorola DROID 2 having been launched with Android 2.2 under the hood, and as owners of the original DROID celebrate the receipt of Froyo on their device, it would appear that as for now, DROID X users are being left out at the dessert table. Of course, there is always the version of Froyo for the Supersized DROID that recently leaked, but if those other DROID models are getting official versions of the new software build via OTA dissemination, why should "X" owners settle for a possibly unstable version that could brick their phone?
But it isn't all bad news for owners of the DROID X. Thanks to an easy to install .apk file created by Android Central forum member chaluxedeluxe, and available at the source link, you can upgrade your handset's lock screen to the Android 2.2 version. You might not be able to view flash enabled video or animation on your "X" yet, but that day is coming soon. Meanwhile, you can impress your parents ("Didn't think you had it in you, son"), friends, and loved ones by showing off the new lock screen on your phone. Before you know it, the rest of the Froyo update will be sent out OTA, and once installed, your charade will be unnecessary. As we reported, the ETA for the Android 2.2 upgrade to reach the DROID X is early next month.
