First Sony Xperia Z4 press photo appears, claims subtle design changes

By now we know plenty about the upcoming Sony Xperia Z4 flagship - from the eventual chipset, through the camera module, to the exact dimensions, or at least the parts that the rumor mill has implied. Now, an alleged press render photo of the Xperia Z4 has appeared for the first time, and it hints at subtle design differences, too.

Given the phone's supposed 146.3 x 71.9 x 7.2 mm chassis dimensions, which are in the ballpark of the Xperia Z3, the phone won't differ much in size, and, most likely, the screen diagonal will be the same 5.2 inches. This is somewhat corroborated by the claimed press render we see here, as it reminds of of the Z3 in many ways, save for a few caveats. First off, the top speaker/earpiece, has been moved to the edge, and doesn't appear in the middle of the bezel like on the Xperia Z3

We can reasonably expect the same thing for the bottom part of the stereo speaker set, putting those two even further apart, and thus eventually improving on the stereo part of the sound quality. Another difference is that the placing of the proximity sensor and the front-facing camera is swapped in the Z4, compared to the Z3.

The under-the-hood changes, however, will be significant - faster chipset, perhaps higher screen resolution, and, of course, the camera, as we are expecting Sony to equip the Z4 with its newest IMX230 sensor that allows real-time HDR, and image plane phase detection autofocus. According to Geekbench, the new Sony device will run Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, and be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 810 beast plus 3 GB of DDR4 RAM. Word's mum on battery capacity, but, given the stellar Z3 endurance, we can expect the Z4 to top the flagship charts again.
