Finally! Samsung Gear S2 now works with iPhones (update: not just yet)
Update: Verizon Wireless has reached out to say that it has mistakenly pointed out support for iPhones with the Gear S2 in the change log for this latest update. So, no, the Gear S2 will not yet pair with iOS, but future compatibility between iPhones and Samsung's smartwatches is still in the plans, according to earlier reports.
One of the nation's slowest carriers when it comes to pushing device updates is surprisingly the first one to push the update to the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic starting today, March 24th. It will bump up the smartwatches to software version R730VVRU1BPC1, and this particular versions adds support for pairing the timepiece to iPhone running iOS 8.4 or later.
The Gear S2 is probably the best alternative to the Apple Watch for iPhone users
The logical question to ask is: why would Apple users prefer the Gear S2 over the Apple Watch? Well, it's a matter of personal preference, but there is quite a few objective advantages of Samsung's watch: it has a round display, it features better battery life and has an extremely convenient and nowhere-to-be-found-on-Apple-Watch rotatable bezel that is used for navigation, and most importantly it's much cheaper!Convinced already? If you feel like you need to take a look a better look at the Gear S2 offers, feel free to see our detailed review. And if you still haven't received the update to your existing Gear S2, keep in mind that it might be a few days until it arrives (updates are usually pushed out in batches).
