Donut for Android scheduled to come out by the end of the summer?
The information about Android OS version 2.0, codenamed "The Donut" comes from the team developing the The Weather Channel app - the future version of the app will be based on Android 2.0 SDK. If software developers have already began to adopt Android 2.0 SDK and build their apps around it, are we to see version 2.0 by the end of this summer we wonder? Due to all changes the update is bringing along, applications made for Android 1.5 will not be compatible with version 2.0. In other words, this is point zero for the OS and all developers will have to update their software products accordingly. According to a member of The Weather Channel team, the new platform version features better system stability and improved ease of use.
Perhaps most manufacturers are holding up on their Android handsets until version 2.0 has been released? Andy Rubin of Google said we were to expect 15 to 20 Android cell phones by the end of this year and we have seen only the HTC Hero, HTC Magic and Samsung Galaxy this far.
