Cyanogen 12S certified, OnePlus One rollout just days away
A tweet sent out Friday from OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei indicates that the Lollipop based version of Cyanogen, CM12S, has been certified by the company. Pei adds that the latest version of CyanogenMod will rollout to the OnePlus One "in the next few days." Earlier this month, the manufacturer released its own Oxygen OS, which is based on Android 5.0.2.
OnePlus promised to give away five 64GB Sandstone Black OnePlus One units if the updates were not disseminated by the end of March. It appears that five lucky people will end up with a brand new handset.
While rumors that OnePlus was developing its own Android based OS had been circulating for some time, it seems that the company's efforts picked up after an Indian court blocked sales of the OnePlus One. This came after Cyanogen signed an exclusive contract in the counry with Indian phone manufacturer Micromax. The court eventually reversed the ban temporarily after deciding that the low priced Yu phones that would use CM in India were not competing with the flagship spec'd OnePlus One.
The CM12S update will allow OnePlus One users to send a message with a signature, and offers different colors for different parties in a conversation. A new music player is also on board with lyrics support, a dynamic playlist and a new UI.
Thanks for the tip!
