Cupcake upgrade heads back to the kitchen for more seasoning; next serving in June?
The Android 1.5 OS upgrade, known as Cupcake, has been delayed by T-Mobile for approximately one week. A letter posted on the T-Mobile forum, apparently coming from the carrier, saya that the software needs some finishing touches to ensure that customers get "optimal functionality and smooth delivery" from the upgrade. The delay seems longer than it really is. We recently reported that a leaked schedule from T-Mobile's internal systems indicated that 100% of G1 owners in the U.S. would have been offered the Cupcake upgrade by May 25th. A delay until June is in effect, only about a week later than the original schedule. The carrier will notify G1 owners when it is ready to hook them up with the firmware upgrade.

The Cupcake update will improve many things on the G1. Among the most notable changes will be the addition of a virtual QWERTY keyboard, faster camera functionality, video capture and video playback, ability to upload videos directly to YouTube and an updated internet browser. Check out the source link for a complete list of what you can expect from the Cupcake upgrade whenever it finally leaves the kitchen. We get the feeling that the Android 1.5 OS won't leave the kitchen until Chef Gordon Ramsay himself finds it tasty.
