Bezelless devices have already become the rule rather than the exception and it's only natural for the relatively-new design language to trickle down to the most affordably-priced niches on the smartphone market. Chinese phone maker Bluboo is certainly no stranger to this design concept as it already has a few rather aggressively-priced bezelless devices in its parsenal. The latest bezel-busting phone to join the manufacturer's ranks is the new Bluboo D5 Pro, a device that preaches the new mantra but surely wouldn't break your bank with its super-affordable price tag.
Now, the Bluboo D5 Pro is advertised as a tri-bezelless phone which is aimed to directly rival Xiaomi's Mi Mix 2s. The 5.5-inch LCD display up front employs the palm-friendly 18:9 aspect ratio and has a resolution of 640 by 1280 pixels. Just like the Mi Mix 2s, it features small top and side bezels, while the bottom chin appears to be quite minimalist and houses the 8MP f/1.8 front-facing selfie snapper. There is a fingerprint scanner present, but it's positioned at the rear of the phone, right beneath the 13MP f/2.0 main camera which boasts a Samsung-made sensor.
Overall, the device achieves a commendable screen-to-body ratio of 89%, making it a rather compact and pocketable endeavor.
Internally, we are dealing with a quad-core MediaTek Helio MT6737 chipset that's capable of hitting clock speeds of up to 1.3GHz should the need arise. The Bluboo D5 Pro has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage, which is a rare combination for this price point, as Bluboo puts it. A 2,700mAh battery keeps the lights going and we bet topping it up wouldn't take long thanks to the 5V/1.5A fast charging present. Oh, and there's a 3,5mm jack on board.
The whole shebang rounds up to the rather-stomachable price tag of $124.99 (prior to any import taxes) and will be available in Obsidian Black, Deep-sea Blue, and Rose Red colors. However, as part of Bluboo's global launch promotion that runs April 9-15, the device would cost merely $99 for the first 1,000 buyers. Those lucky adopters will also receive $20 worth of accessories to further sweeten the deal: a phone case, a screen protector, and a ring holder.
