BlackBerry Storm's Sure-Press wins award for Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough
Despite being panned in the press and by many smartphone fans, the clickable "Sure-Press" keyboard of the BlackBerry Storm won the award as the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough at the Global Mobile Awards 2009. The ceremony took place at the MWC show in Barcelona and RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie was in attendence to pick up the trophy. Balsillie also walked away with a second trophy as RIM won the GSMA Chairman's award. The win for the "Sure-Press" keyboard is vindication for RIM. Unlike other touchscreens, pressing on the Storm's screen gives you the feel of pressing a button on a computer keyboard. Critics have complained that typing on the device is slow and inaccurate. Still, as the award shows, the technology does have its fans.
