Before landing in the US, Sony Xperia Z2 should be launched in Canada (pre-orders available now)

Last month, Sony announced that it would release its new Xperia Z2 in Canada starting May, exclusively via Bell Mobility. And yet it turns out that Canadian customers will be able to buy the Z2 unlocked as well.

According to the Xperia Z2 product page found at Sony Canada’s website, the smartphone is now available for pre-order in stores, costing $699.99. While Sony doesn’t say when the unlocked Z2 will be in stock in Canada, we assume it’s going to happen later this month. Meanwhile, Bell is also accepting pre-orders for the Z2, asking $179.95 for it on contract, or $699.95 without contract.

All in all, Canadian users will have the Xperia Z2 before folks in the US - where the new Sony flagship smartphone should arrive, unlocked, sometime “this summer.” Verizon might sell the Z2, too, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed.

The Xperia Z2 runs Android 4.4 KitKat, is waterproof (IP58), and features - among other things - a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 20.7MP rear camera, 3GB of RAM, and a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor.
