Asus and Apple lead the way in sales of tablets in Japan
A published report on Monday reveals that Asus and Apple are the top two tablet manufacturers in Japan. The Android and iOS operating systems dominated in the country with 94.4% of tablet sales from January of this year through October. As far as Windows' share in Japan's tablet market is concerned, that figure is now 5% according to the report, and is expected to increase next year.
Toshiba recently became the first Japanese based tablet vendor to offer a Windows powered slate. That was back in November with the launch of the Toshiba Dynabook Tab VT484. The report goes on to add that 8 inch Windows powered tablets have helped increase demand in Japan for the platform, one of the reasons why some researchers expect the OS to pick up more market share in Japan's tablet market. The 8 inch slabs compete against the Apple iPad mini and the Apple iPad mini with Retina display. Both of those tablets feature a 7.9 inch panel.
