Asus ZenFone 4 smartphones to be launched in May
Even though Asus sold a lot of ZenFone 3 smartphones throughout 2016, the company was still losing money in the first three quarters of the year. It only managed to make a turnaround in the fourth quarter, but the profits were not enough to cover the losses in the first three quarters.
Overall, Asus shipped 17.5 million ZenFone series smartphones last year, a few millions less than the number shipped in 2015 (20.5 million). The good news is the handset maker has a pretty solid roadmap for the first half of 2017, as the planned launches of the ZenFone 3 Zoom and ZenFone AR will help boost its profits.
On top of that, Asus will be launching the first ZenFone 4 smartphones in May, sources from Taiwan's handset supply chain claim.
Not many details are known about these devices aside from the fact that they will pack better hardware specifications than the ZenFone 3 smartphones, but also higher average selling points.
It's unclear when exactly the new ZenFone 4 smartphones will be announced, but it would make sense for Asus to have them unveiled at Mobile World Congress in late February. Then, the company will have a few months to make them available on the market.
