Apple to open Grand Central Station store for Black Friday?
In a bid to open a new flagship store right on the busiest shopping day of the year, Apple plans to announce on Tuesday that its new Grand Central Station location in the Big Apple will open on Black Friday. We have followed this story from the beginning, back in May, when we told you that the Cupertino based firm was thinking about taking the space at one of the City's most prestigious addresses. During the summer, the MTA, which owns the property, released renderings of what the store is expected to look like.
According to Techfootnote, the site was loaded with construction workers and corporate executives on Friday, trying to get the store ready to open its doors on Friday. Apple paid $5 million to out the previous tenant, an upscale restaurant, and is paying $1.1 million a year in rent. By square footage, it will be the largest store in Apple's retail chain and will employ a staff of 300 who are currently in training, even on Sunday.

Apple usually offers a Black Friday sale which means you can expect discounts on popular Apple devices and accessories for the day. Take the type of crowd for the Grand Opening that you might expect from New Yorkers, add the traffic that goes past the store each day (750,000 people pass the doors of the location daily, 1,000,000 on holidays), and you can expect some 15,200 square feet of fireworks at Apple's newest retail store on Friday. With a balcony that overlooks the main hall, right now there are scaffolds and shrouds to hide the reconstruction. Hopefully, that all gets removed by the end of the week.
