Apple iPhone 6 Plus unboxing

Apple is definitely entering new space with its just launched iPhone 6 Plus. Yes, it’s undeniably the bigger sibling to the iPhone 6, but the more pressing matter is whether or not it can contend with the other sluggers in the phablet space. Samsung has clearly taken the segment by storm with its line of top-notch Galaxy Note smartphones, where two more will be making their debuts this fall – so Apple need to be on its best to attempt to knock off the prized series from its pedestal. Lucky for us, we just got in our review unit, so we’re going to take a quick look at the phone.

The packaging, much like all other iPhones before it, hasn’t changed much at all. Obviously, the box itself is the biggest we’ve seen from the popular iPhone line. The front of the box is adorned with an image of the intriguing phablet, while the rear simply gives us some insight to the handset and the included goodies with the packaging. Opening it for the first time, our eyes are first greeted to the gigantic sized smartphone – and boy is it BIG! Not surprisingly, it’s packaged along with all of the accessories we’ve come to expect to arrive with an iPhone. Therefore, they include the lightning docking cable, wall charger, earpods, and those Apple logo decals.

One of the first feelings we have holding the new iPhone 6 Plus is just how massive of an iPhone it really is. Prior to this, we thought there was a fair amount of substance moving from the iPhone 4S to the 5, but this takes it to a whole entire new level. Now that we’re moving from an iPhone 5s to the 6 Plus, the difference in size is significantly more substantial. Gone is the easy-to-hold nature of the iPhone 5s, replaced instead by something that requires two hands for normal interaction with the phone. Needless to say, the size of the iPhone 6 Plus is its most notable characteristic, but it’s just nice to know that it continues to be one solidly constructed thing – thanks in part to its unibody brushed aluminum chassis.

Along with the large footprint, the iPhone 6 Plus also stands out for its massive 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 Retina Display – the biggest and highest resolution screen to ever grace the iPhone. As much as we want to talk a lot about its attractive elements, we’ll dish out our reservations once we’re able to experience its true scope. Hardware-wise, the phone is treated to the usual array of improvements over last year’s iPhone 5s. Many long time iPhone owners have clamored for an iPhone with a significantly larger display, so it’s finally nice to see Apple give what the people asked for. We’ll be putting the iPhone 6 Plus through a bunch of test to see if it’s a reputable phablet that can tangle with some of the greats that exist in the space at this time.
