Apple expects strong demand for the iPhone 14 Pro Max; this is how we know
The iPhone 13 line has been a huge success for Apple and there is no doubt that Apple feels confident about the 2022 lineup. According to highly accurate display analyst Ross Young (via MacRumors), Apple expects big things from the premium Pro models, the iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Young told his "Super Followers" the breakdown in panel production for the upcoming iPhone 14 line.

The 6.7-inch panel for the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the display most shipped by Apple from June to September

Young says that for the period between June and September, 28% of the panels shipped for the upcoming series will be for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. The panels for the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro will make up 26% of the shipments which is the same figure expected for the panels to be used on the 6.1-inch iPhone 14. Young says that the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max will have the lowest number of panels shipped at 19% although Young predicts that this particular panel will "make up a lot of ground in September."

Earlier this year, there was speculation that Apple was behind schedule while developing the iPhone 14 Max. TFI International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said at the time that suppliers would work overtime to pick up the pace and that consumers would not see any issues finding this model when it is released.

Any shortage of the iPhone 14 Max should be quickly alleviated. This is the model that is replacing the "mini" version of the iPhone due to weak sales and could find strong demand in the marketplace from those who want a large 6.7-inch display for their iPhone but don't want to pay the high price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max which could start at $1,199 this year, although the base model could start with 256GB of storage.

If Apple does equip the base Pro models with 256GB of storage, the price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max would merely equal the same price of the 256GB iPhone 13 Pro Max resulting in no price hike after all.

Apple is trying to subtly lead consumers toward the purchase of the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro models

This year, Apple is widely differentiating the Pro and non-Pro models in an attempt to steer more consumers toward its pricier phones. One of the more controversial things that Apple plans to do in this vein is to have the iPhone 14 and iPhone Max powered by the same 5nm A15 Bionic chip that powers the iPhone 13 line. The premium iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will both sport the new 4nm A16 Bionic.

In addition, while the Pro models will have the "i cutouts" on the display, the non-Pro variants are stuck with the same old "notch." While all iPhone 14 units will come with 6GB of RAM, the Pro models will have the faster LPDDR5 version compared to the older and slower LPDDR4X RAM that will be used on the cheaper phones. The latter will also get a less impressive AMOLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate compared to the higher-quality display with a 120Hz refresh rate that will be featured on the iPhone 14 Pro variants.

The iPhone 14 Pro models will also have a 48MP Wide camera compared to the 12MP Wide camera on the non-Pro models. Of course, there is also the telephoto camera on the pricier units, something that is missing on the non-Pro models.

The new iPhone 14 lineup will be unveiled on September 7th, possibly in front of a live audience for the first time since the iPhone 11 was introduced in 2019. The new models could be released as soon as September 16th which would give Apple an extra week to include more revenue from the new handsets as part of its fiscal fourth quarter revenue.
