Angry Birds Movie trailer released, film to hit U.S. theaters May 20th, 2016
Part of the problem with making a movie about a fad is that because of the lead time required, by the time the movie hits the silver screen, the subject might not be as popular as it once was. Case in point, the trailer for the Angry Birds Movie was released today (even though the film won't be playing at a theater near you until next summer). The actual premiere dates are May 13th in the U.K., May 20th in the U.S., and June 9th in Australia.
Seriously, with a show of hands, how many of you are still manning the virtual slingshot and trying to knock off the pigs? How many of you have stopped playing Angry Birds? It seems like so long ago that the game was so popular that it led to the opening of a theme park in China. The characters were seen everywhere, licensed for clothing, lunch boxes, cereal, band-aids and many other items. Rovio even talked about becoming the new Disney. Now, the company is experiencing how fleeting the popularity of a fad is, cutting 40% of its work force last month.

The Angry Birds Movie does have some recognizable names. Jason Sudeikis voices Red, Josh Gad is Chuck, and Peter Dinklage plays the Mighty Eagle. It is possible that the film becomes a success, despite the fact that many of the kids who played Angry Birds back in 2011 are now teens, looking for more sophisticated fare at the movie theater.
