The
ZenWatch 2 is the newest Asus smartwatch to receive the long-awaited Android Wear 2.0 update. Much later than expected, Asus has kicked off the rollout of the update, but only a small percentage of ZenWatch 2 owners will get the update in the first day.
Looking back in retrospective, Asus is one of the last companies that have delivered on their promise to upgrade its smartwatches to Android Wear 2.0. For some reason,
Asus delayed the update for the ZenWatch 2 and 3 a couple of times.
Even now, Asus says Android Wear 2.0 for
ZenWatch 2 will be deployed in two phases. The first wave of smartwatches will receive the update in July, whereas the second wave won't get the update until the end of this month or early August.
If you own the Asus ZenWatch 2 “Sparrow” (WI501Q), then you'll be among the first to receive the
Android Wear 2.0 update. Those with the ZenWatch 2 “Wren” (WI502Q) model will have to wait until the end of the month.
The roll-out of the first phase should last for about 5-7 days, but you can go ahead and check for availability by heading to Settings / About / System Updates.
