Android Market hits 20,000 apps and keeps growing
Just 5 months after reaching 10,000 apps, the Android Marketplace has doubled and now offers approximately 20,000 titles. Of the total, nearly 38% require payment while the remaining balance consists of free downloads. Looking at the graph of New applications and games, you can see in pictures what a thousand words could tell you-that the Market is growing by leaps and bounds. Mobile Crunch estimates that the site will be hosting 50,000 apps by the 2Q of next year. Driving the growth is the increasing number and popularity of new Android powered handsets and devices like the Motorola DROID (on the nation's largest carrier), the HTC DROID ERIS (ditto), the HTC Hero (Sprint) and the upcoming HTC Nexus One (unlocked, but favoring T-Mobile) will assure that there is plenty of demand for developers to meet by designing new and better apps.
