Android 4.3 comes to Sprint's Samsung GALAXY Nexus
With all of the news coming out this afternoon relating to Android 4.4 and the Nexus 5, we can tell you that there is an update rolling out today to the Sprint version of the Samsung GALAXY Nexus. No, it is not KitKat. The phone is receiving Android 4.3 and Google has already said that this update will be the end of the line for the device, which has been discontinued by both Verizon and Sprint. The reason? The two-year old device is already older than the 18 months that Google uses as a guide to determine when a phone is too old to update.
It hasn't been smooth sailing for the stock Android device. The update to Android 4.1 was not exactly a timely one which didn't make sense since the phone does not have the TouchWiz UI running on top of Android. The software version is GJ04 and will be sent out randomly via an OTA update to Samsung GALAXY Nexus handsets within the next 10 to 21 days.
Just yesterday, another Samsung device, the Samsung Galaxy S4, started to receive Android 4.3 along with the Premium Suite update that allows the phone to be compatible with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
