Android 4.0.4 coming to Sony's 2011 Xperia lineup
Sony is sending out the latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich to its 2011 Xperia lineup. Starting this week, Android 4.0.4 is being sent out to the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V, Sony Ericsson Xperia mini, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro, Sony Ericsson Xperia active and the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray. Besides the new OS version, the update includes bug fixes, performance enhancements and other improvements.
Over the next few weeks, the update will expand to the Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo L and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. If your phone has already been updated to Android 4.0, you will be able to download Android 4.0.4 using an OTA prompt. Those using a 2011 Sony Xperia model still running Gingerbread will have to hook up to a PC or Mac using PC companion or Bridge for Mac once they receive the notification that the update has arrived.
Kudos to Sony for actually closing in on its promise to update its entire 2011 Sony Xperia lineup to Ice Cream Sandwich. The Japanese based manufacturer could have used the simple excuse that the promise was made when its joint venture with Ericsson was active. In this day and age, when a corporation follows through on a major promise, you have to take notice.
