Amazon may have an 8.9” Kindle Fire in the works
The Amazon Kindle Fire has taken the slate world by storm ever since the 7-inch, sub-$200 Android tablet hit virtual shelves back in September. While, based on its success, we would expect Amazon to create another iteration of the budget slab; we haven’t heard must in the way of a successor.
Reuters is now reporting that they have on good authority from an unnamed source that Amazon is in fact working on the next generation of its Kindle Fire. According to the report the new tablet will sport an 8.9-inch screen to bring it closer to the screen size of the competing Apple iPad and it is expected to launch around this year’s holiday season.
In addition to the Fire, the source also states that Amazon will be revamping its Kindle e-Reader to include a front-lit display. Considering Barnes & Noble’s e-Reader already sports built-in illumination and many customers are forced to add an external light to their Kindle, this seems like a sensible move.
