Amazon refreshed its Kindle lineup with a new Oasis e-ink reader, larger and slightly more advanced than the original model. The 7-inch Kindle Oasis features a metal chassis and it's completely waterproof (IPX8 rating).
Starting today, customers can pre-order the new Kindle Oasis for $250. The
e-ink reader will begin shipping to customers on October 31, so in about two weeks from now.
According to Amazon, the 7-inch display of the next-generation Kindle Oasis features a 300 pixel-per-inch (ppi) density, which should fit over 30% more words per page. Unlike the original Kindle Oasis that promised two weeks of power, the new model should offer about six weeks of power via the built-in battery.
Another nifty feature, Audible integration will allow users to seamlessly switch from a textual version of a book to its audio counterpart, without having to open the
Kindle or Audible mobile apps.
It's worth pointing out that Amazon is also selling a 32GB model with free cellular connectivity for $350. The regular model is Wi-Fi only and packs 8GB storage, whereas the mid-tier version has 32GB internal memory and costs $280.
