Alongside the
Idol 4s (which is already
available to pre-order in the US, and will be released on August 3), Alcatel is also getting ready to launch the
Idol 4 - a smaller and cheaper handset. While the Idol 4s is offered unlocked, the Idol 4 will be exclusively sold via Cricket Wireless starting August 5.
Cricket will release the Alcatel Idol 4 for $199.99 plus tax, with activation on a smartphone plan (no long term contract required). Like the more advanced Idol 4s, the Idol 4 comes with a free pair of VR goggles, allowing users to experience virtual reality content from Alcatel's own VR Store. As far as we know, this will be the cheapest smartphone + VR headset bundle on the market.
Made out of metal and glass, the Alcatel Idol 4 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor. The handset sports a 5.2-inch 1080p display, also featuring a 13 MP rear camera, 8 MP front-facing camera, and 3 GB of expandable internal memory. There's 3 GB of RAM on board, while the battery is a 2610 mAh one. For a closer look at the smartphone, check out our
