Alcatel 1 Series hands-on
Alcatel might be going after some ambitious efforts this year with the introduction of three brand new smartphone lines that are being announced during CES 2018, they're still widely recognized as a manufacturer that makes affordably priced devices. Even though its new Alcatel Series 5 device is positioned to be at the top of its portfolio, the Alcatel 1 Series on the other hand will leverage Alcatel's usual stance of having an extremely slim price point.
We got to spend a short time with the upcoming handset, which will be getting its official introduction when MWC 2018 rolls around. For now, however, we were only given a quick sneak peek preview at a mockup of the device. Even though it's not a fully functioning device, we still nonetheless can gather some insights about the phone.
For starters, the Alcatel 1 Series is flaunting a textured like material that covers the phone's entire frame. On one hand, this textured material is unexpected for a phone that's intended to reach the masses at an affordable price, while on the other, it helps to provide adequate grip when it's held. Even more notable is the fact that it'll be packing along a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone – again that's something you don't quite expect to find in a handset of this caliber.
Due to being a mockup, the phone doesn't provide us with any meaningful look at the phone's other hardware – like the quality of its screen. Then again, the Alcatel 1 Series will be firmly adopting a screen with an 18:9 screen aspect ratio. Although, the bezels around the panel seem to be just a smidgen thicker than what's found on other phones! Given the nature of the phone, we really can't be too picky, right?
There's no mention about its exact availability date, but Alcatel assures that the Series 1 will be making it official introduction at MWC 2018. Knowing that this is going to be sitting at the lower-end of Alcatel's portfolio, you can surely bet that it's going to be attached with one juicy price point! Let's just hope that the phone can at least deliver some decent performance for its price.
