While AT&T was allowing business users to buy the Tilt2 for the last 10 days, the device can now be purchased by the general public starting today. The HTC Touch Pro2 variant will cost you $299.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate and a 2 year contract which puts the carrier's price below the $350 asked by
Sprint and
T-Mobile, but still well above the $200 price tag at (
currently sold out) Verizon. Off contract, the price is $499.99. With all top four U.S. wireless operators offering this device, the difference in price could explain why Big Red has had trouble keeping its' version in stock. It remains to be seen whether AT&T's pricing places enough of a gap between the carrier and the Sprint/T-Mobile price to pick up business from the penny pinchers who can't find inventory at Verizon. Just like the four gas stations at each corner of the intersection soon converge on price, we would expect something to give among the networkers with the highest prices, especially when they see how quickly the competition keeps running out of phones to sell.
