Starting tomorrow, July 15th, AT&T will begin rolling out Android 5.1 to the HTC One M9. This information comes from a tweet sent out by HTC VP of product management, Mo Versi. The tweet notes that in addition to Android 5.1, the update includes improvements for the rear camera. The 20MP camera on back has been an upgrade to the 4MP Ultrapixel camera that used to reside on the rear of the HTC One (M7) and HTC One (M8). But many HTC One M9 users have been unhappy with the rear snapper and the camera has already received an earlier update.
Ironically, the 4MP Ultrapixel camera that was the subject of so much derision the last coupler of years, is doing quite well as the front-facing camera on the HTC One M9. The Ultrapixels are doing their job, allowing quality selfies to be snapped even under low-light conditions.
Those with a lost or stolen HTC One M9 can lock the phone and keep it locked even after a factory reset. The only way to unlock the phone is for the rightful owner to sign in to his Google account. After the update, you can use the volume slider to change the settings on Interruptions. On Quick Settings, animations will tell you if certain settings are on or off. And you can pin pages to the screen to prevent others from rummaging through your phone.
When the update comes, make sure you are on a Wi-Fi hook up and that your battery is at least 50% charged. Sine Android 5.1 will be sent out OTA, it will come in waves which means that you might not get it right away. If it doesn't come tomorrow, there is no need to panic. Be patient and Android 5.1 will be on your AT&T branded HTC One M9 before you know it.
