Update to Huawei P20 Pro disables AI on the camera
An OTA update weighing in at 525MB has been pushed out to the Huawei P20 Pro. Carrying the August Android Security patch along with minor bug fixes and improvements to the phone's performance, the update has a build number of CLT-L29 8.1.9.156(C432). Oh yes, for some reason Huawei is using the update to disable Master AI on the camera. Not to fear however, it still can be enabled manually.
You might recall that the Huawei P20 Pro features a triple-camera setup with a 40MP RGB sensor, a 20MP monochrome sensor and an 8MP telephoto sensor. The AI capabilities of the phone are built into the home grown Kirin 970 SoC that drives the device. With AI, the camera can analyze the image coming through the camera lenses and change the settings to produce optimal results.
According to some Huawei P20 Pro users, the AI simply resulted in oversaturated colors on their pictures. While Huawei hasn't said why they have decided to disable AI on the camera, it could be that the feedback the company received convinced it to make this a feature that users should enable themselves.
