Thanks to some clever marketing, when you think about going to the movies and need showtimes, Fandango is the first web site you think of. There, you can view trailers, look up showtimes at a number of nearby theaters and even buy tickets. Fandango does everything but sell popcorn and Jujubes. And with just about every movie theater loaded with smartphone carrying customers, Fandango has created a mobile app that does just about everything that its web site does.

To show just how much the movie-going public relies on Fandango's mobile app, the company on Wednesday announced that 28% of tickets it sold in May came from the Fandango mobile app. That represents a 47% increase in such ticket sales year-over-year. Furthermore, the number of users flocking to the Fandango mobile app increased 29% in May from the previous year.

The numbers are not just a statement on the increasing use of smartphones in our everyday lives, but is also evidence to how Fandango has created a brand that is almost synonymous with a night out at the the 'talkies'. The Fandango app is available for free from the App Store, Google Play Store, BlackBerry App World, Windows Phone Market and the HP App Catalog.
