Rumors of a portrless iPhone have been floating around for years, but it appears that Apple has scrapped the idea because it fears how the EU would react to such a device. Considering the continuing clashes between Apple and European regulators, that move is understandable. However, from a user perspective, things might be a little different. After all, that would’ve been a truly unique smartphone, and tech enthusiasts appear to need one of those desperatly.

Do you think a portless phone is a good idea? Would you pay for such a device? What do you think the pros and cons would be? Do you think other brands could complete Apple’s idea and just skip the EU market? Share your thoughts!

Why not make these on-demand with custom price-tags, then roll out based on sales. We always have niche marine-diver like markets for this!!! :)

"All"? Are you sure about that? There are still quite a few people using Note 20 Ultras, Xperias & other devices that still have an SD card slot.

Im using a moto razor 2024 and it has a sd spot.

"let's be honest, the USB-C port was never made for charging, nor having the cable put in and taken out multiple times a day."

No, let's be logical because that's literally what it was made for.

"You don't have to search long to find users who can no longer charge their device through USB-C because the little pin connector has gotten loose."

9-10, those are people who felt the gas station, dollar store or airport USB-C cable worked just as well as OEM cables.

"So a portless phone would be preferable or better yet, a new port that looks like lightning-port, but is open standard and as fast or faster than USB-C"

Again, let's be logical, which clearly this entire comment was not.

No, USB-C is and was made for data primarily and only secondarily made for charging, which is obvious.

And I was not talking about the cable, but the bloody port that is on the phone (the female connector). That little connector is just too easily scratched - luckily most Android phones have great wireless charging, but often still slower than wired.

No, I will not buy. I need a port to transfer files.

This. I refuse to be locked into exclusively using cloud storage to manage data that belongs to me.
