Mostly gimmick. A cool party trick but I use a case anyways. You know there’s a functional light in older phones. Hmm led notification alerts.

If the lights do something useful, for example, indicating a notification has come in, and you can customize the colors based on what app is receiving the notification (email, text, social media app, etc), then this would be a great use of lights.

Otherwise, if the lights are just a design element, then no.

Yes! However even better would be the sides of the phone.

Could be a cool idea for a notification light. I've also wondered if they could make an illuminated USB port to plug in the cable easier at night :)

I miss RGB notification LEDs on old Sony, HTC and BlackBerry phones - they served a real purpose. They were exorcised by the bezel witch-hunters because they cried their 96 tears. As long as they serve some purpose and don't adversely affect battery life, why not? It's not like anyone is going to see them anyway.

Fun fact, even newer Xperia models sport the notification light, it's such a small and useful element that it's absence in most modern phones is mind-boggling

Only one LED that blinks a color for texts, blinks a color for email, & blinks a color for something else. Simple yet very functional.?

Really????? How many times have I read people's complaints about battery life and now someone wants to consider adding another battery draining element onto the phone for nothing other than vanity purposes. While LED(s) use minimal current draw, they do use current and will to some minimal degree reduce battery charge life. I don't need my phone or any other personal possession to try and impress others. I only need it to perform its design function outstandingly.

I do not care about fancy lights on the phone... They should concentrate on making better batteries and cameras on the phones instead of waisting their time on the fancy stuff like lights on the back of their phone... ? It's just my opinion... ?

I had the nothing phone 1 , I want it that way and it's our choice. If you don't like it go ahead pick what you want. I am certificate because I'm an actual user of the phone.

I don’t see the downside. Of you don’t want it don’t use it. But it doesn’t ruin a phone, just adds options
