Do you think Google crushed Apple’s AI even before its release?

Apple could hot glue their logo to a 1973 Encyclopedia Britannica and call it AI and the iSheep would pay $1k for it allll dayyyy longggg. It does not matter if it is better than Google or Samsung or OnePlus... all that matters is that they are TOLD it is better and they will forego rent to have the "latest and greatest" that Android had 10 years ago. {yawn}

The initial reaction to the announcement of Apple Intelligence at the WWDC was pure excitement. Apple was finally joining the AI world, and everyone expected it would happen with its usual polish and attention to detail. Shortly after, it became clear that Apple Intelligence wouldn’t be fully released with the iPhone 16, and some features would not be available before next spring. The hype seemed dead.

Then came the Made by Google event, introducing the Pixel 9 Series and all the Gemini AI features that will be available as soon as the new phones are released. Actually, some of the Gemini AI features will be available on older Pixel devices. That had a sobering effect on everyone who was still hyped about Apple Intelligence. It has also made the success of the iPhone 16 Series much more questionable than one would expect from an iPhone release.

So, is this evaluation premature? Do you think Apple has a chance for a comeback in the AI battlefield? Is the Pixel 9 Series the big winner of the first stage of AI integration on smartphones? Are the AI features even that important?

Google has been crush Apple since 2010 when Android surpassed iOS in sales and usage.

Apple being behind with AI isn't a big deal. Apple is never behind. They have their own platform. They can be as late as hell, and it won't ever make a difference.

You guys still don't seem to understand, the only OEM's that can't wait to bring innovation are the ones who compete using the same platform. Apple took over a decade just to let you move icons where you want.

But you guys worship them like God's.

You alls claim Apple is slower b3causr theyvare trying to make is perfect is all fanatical BS. They are slow because it is harder to bring features at the OS level, especially for iOS. Unlike Windows and Android where task is a bit less complicated.

I agree with the first half - but disagree on the second half.

Yes, Apple has been struggling lately. Yes, Google has been slacking in the hardware (and now pricing as if their productsaren'tlacking in the hardware is tough pill for people to swallow). Unsure about Samsung taking the lead.

But I have to disagree with a major flip in 2025. Mostly because people don't care about AI. Apple AI may be the weakest attempt at AI in the market, but Apple customers don't care. Very few people will switch from Apple because their AI sucks. Very few people will leave Google because their hardware is subpar against others.

IMO, AI is the industry failing to improve in the hardware department so they're trying to bring attention to the next big buzzword.

Well hardware is nothing without software.

If I had you a fancy GPU, it means nothing until you install it. Software is what brings hardware to life. Hardware is just circuits and specs on paper.

I do agree AI is kinda a buzzword. But it has to be. Hardware aren't buzzwords, even though Apple tried to make it seem so by naming things like Super Retina Display which actually doesn't mean anything unless you are a hardware geek.

People only care about what they see. Millions of people are going to use the AI features of their device and they may not even know it. And the fact is, if you so it right you won't know it.

Integrating the features of hardware into what you can do with software is no easy feat. Someone always will be 1st. It won't always be Apple or Google or anyone else we know.

Apple's own history shows that in the majority of cases, what Apple gives tends to be far and away less vs competition; because Apple has no competition.

Imagine if iOS was available to all oems. No one would even think to buy an iPhone. Because it would cost more and do less than everyone else, unless Apple actually competed.

The iPhone would be to Apple what the Surface is to Microsoft. Just an option and the least chosen one.

AI is actually a bigger deal than you think thanks to Hollywood. People may be skeptical as 1st. It's like driving doe the 1st time. Want until Apple introduces their version of the AI features thstvdraws stuff for you. People will be cresting some cool stuff.

Most of people here think AI is not an important feature, could be, but a derivative feature of it in future could be a game changer. No one knows what could happen in tech world, the history is our witness.

It doesn't matter how good or not good Apple's AI, UI, Hardware, Cameras etc. is. None of it matters it's all moot. Very few fo them will switch. It's a cult that sees Apple as the pinnacle of technology and a status symbol when in reality they are just the pinnacle in marketing.

Successful individuals and companies like Apple always attract detractors, envy, and negativity of unsuccessful and frustrated people, as shown in almost all the comments here.

As if the other companies don’t behave exactly like Apple,

but the Androidsheeps, who don’t have a life and spend most of their time being alive glued on those smartphones, can’t get that.

In technology there’s nothing sadder than fanaticism.
