Don't own an iphone, never have, but it's about time the entire industry settled on a COMMON charge/connection for phones and other devices. Funny how many USB jacks you sometimes carry around. USB, A, B, C, Micro, Mini etc.

You know Apple will "chip" the phone that if you don't buy an overpriced APPLE certified cable, the charge/transfer rate won't be as high.

You are absolutely right, every company's goal is to make more money. And that's all the more reason that these regulations are put in place by law makers. Without them the consumers have next to no recourse.

The problem is when Apple goes out of their way to put a twist on their USB-C ports in their iPhones. If the rumours are true where Apple has put a restriction on charging and data transfer speeds, depending on who's USB-C cables are being used, then that is Apple truly going out of their way to be evil pricks. Especially when no one else has put any restrictions on their devices to limit charging, or data transfer speeds based on who makes the USB-C cables.

I think it's a good idea, one connector to rule them all ! Seriously, having the same type of port accross different devices is a positive thing.

Lets hope the rumours where Apple is putting a limit on their USB-C iPhones is true, or not. For instance limiting the iPhones USB-C charging rate, and data transfer rates based on who makes the USB-C cables. Then Apple is only proving how evil they truly are. But we will have to see if Apple has put restrictions on their USB-C ports for their iPhones.

Very interesting look on the situation! :)

Thanks. If the EU didn't discover this, this would have been Apple's way of getting you to pay $30 for a cable you can buy on Amazon for $5. And you know the Apple faithful will go buy it.

Think how dumb it was for Apple to release Mac laptops with only USB-C ports and not even supply a dingle for people with iPhone with USB-A to Lightning.

Apple vontining to purpose try to handicap their products foe profit is so unnecessary.

They are a worldwide known brand. If they gave people what they should get, at the price they are paying; more people will buy it.

But when you overpriced your garbage, and then it diesnt even play nice with standard products already available on the market, then that's a problem for me.

Skip the "rumours" come back when you have facts.

Here are the facts.

And let me be clear. Many rumors are based on some facts. The fact is, someone may have mention something, but maybe not in th3 proper context.

I said rumor, because the info was mentioned from an unverified source.

Verified or not the EU did something about it.

So here are your facts.

In case you decide not to read it. I will post it for you:

Feom the article and I directly quote:

"The tech giant is reportedly planning to implement MFi (‘Made for iPhone’) certification on its range of USB-C accessories, which had led many – including us – to speculate that these Apple-produced chargers would enable faster charging speeds on the iPhone 15 than third-party chargers from other manufacturers.

The EU, however, has warned Apple against imposing such limitations. According to Germany newspaper Die Zeit, EU Industry Commissioner Thierry Breton has told the company that it will prevent iPhones from being sold in member countries (such as France, Germany and Spain) if it attempts to skirt around the EU’s new USB-C charging policy.

“Devices that do not meet the requirements for the uniform charger are not approved on the EU market,” Breton reportedly wrote in a letter to Apple, having already reminded the company of the new rules in March." _ END QUOTE

Apple makes nice hardware - things are seamless in their Eco system- I have an iPhone Pro 11 from back when to connect with my kids-I prefer an Open to Closed Eco and I'm glad the EU is looking out for the consumer****if the Google could make a Pixel phone or foldable with the same battery life as Apple I would be there

The Pixel 5 had/has a better battery life than all of the standard iPhone 12/13/14's

What do you imagine can happen? What type of trouble are you thinking of? 🤔

I think it will be limited in speed and functions. it will essentially be like the lightning ports limited function just over USB-C now.

My Pixel 7 lasts much longer than my iPhone 13 and my Pixel is my main device.
