Thanks to the Quest 3's features, you can pet a cute black cat! Are VR pets coming soon?
The Quest 3 has already established itself as one of the best VR headsets on the market. And is that any wonder? It’s only slightly more expensive than the Quest 2, yet packs so much more features than even the Quest Pro!

But that being said, it could also be said that the Quest 3 isn’t a complete package… Yet. A ton of MR features are expected to drop in 2024. While that won’t stop you from enjoying some of the best games on the Quest 3, it does make us wonder: how much better is the Quest 3 going to be later on?

And — shocker! — we weren’t the only ones thinking that! And good thing too, because one developer also decided to save all of us some time and actually make something that could give us an idea.

And the answer is simply cat-tastic!

So what is the purr-ific invention that VR developer Dennys Kuhnert — who some of you may know as the man behind Hand Physics Lab — shared with the world? Well, a virtual pet, featuring a cute little black cat that is more than just an animated screensaver.

And yep! You’ve guessed it: it’s interactive! Thanks to the feature set of the Quest 3, including but not limited to:

  • Hand tracking
  • Eye-tracking
  • Upper body-tracking
  • Colored, higher quality passthrough
  • Simulated physics

And some of you may even recognize the cat itself, but that’s a spoiler, so let’s not talk about it (if you know — you know!).

This demo was created with the goal of experimentation and as of now, Dennys hasn’t decided if it even has a direction yet. That being said, would we totally take an app that allows us to raise a virtual cat? You tell me in the comments!

I mean, I still play with Digimon virtual pets, so I’m pretty obviously on board! Plus, I have two real cats, so you know I’m no paw-ser.

There’s a ton of excitement to be had with this neat clip that found itself over on Musk’s social network that I don’t know what to call anymore. Beyond that, however, we’ve gotten yet another testament to how meow-some the Quest 3 can be in the hands of a capable developer.
