Twitter for Android gets update, now includes push notifications and more
Twitter for Android has received an update to version 3.3, and it brings a number of new features as Twitter tries to make the service more than just a 140 character SMS. First, the new push notification feature allows you to go into your user profile and select which of the Twitter users you follow will have their tweets and re-tweets pushed to your device. This replaces the old method of having tweets sent to you via SMS.
Another new feature is expandable tweets. Any tweet coming from a Twitter partner will allow you to see a preview of certain content, view images, video and more. This latter feature is rolling out more slowly, but the idea is to let you preview certain content so you can decide whether or not you really want to navigate away from a tweet. The new update also brings an improvement to search autocomplete which will make it easier for users to find specific people to follow. Twitter users can now tap on an avatar to get to a user profile.
Version 3.3 also brings some bug fixes and some tweaks here and there. Overall, it makes Twitter better and that is something we can all get behind. You can get the updated Twitter for Android at Google Play Store.
