Samsung's Gear A circular smartwatch to have 3G and calling functionality
After completing its goal of being the first to put a smartwatch on users' wrists, Samsung is picking up an even more ambitious task - make a perfect smartwatch. That, or get close to it, at least! To make it happen, Samsung is gearing up to release a circular smartwatch by the name of Gear A. Codenamed "Orbis", the device will, reportedly, arrive in two variants - one with Bluetooth connectivity and one with 3G and calling support, with both versions being Wi-Fi connected too.
Nex to this bit of info comes a full list of the Gear A model numbers, which reveals that the smartwatch will be offered by the nation's largest telecoms - AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile. The list is available in the source link below.
Although the Gear A will be undoubtedly better than Samsung smartwatches before it, it carries the weight of competing with the Apple Watch on its figurative shoulders. Seeing that Apple might be investigating a standalone version of the iWatch with 3G and calling functionality, Samsung will have to give its Gear A a heavy marketing push if it wants its efforts to pay off. Then again, the company is leading the adolescent smartwatch market, which means it's got a proper head start.
