Samsung today announced that we'll be able to watch its
Unpacked 2016 event (scheduled for February 21 at MWC) via a 360-degree live stream - on PCs, Android devices, iOS devices, and on the company's own Gear VR headset. As you may already know, Unpacked 2016 is the event where Samsung will officially showcase its Galaxy S7 flagship series of smartphones - including a regular
Galaxy S7, and a
Galaxy S7 edge.
To watch the event on your Android or iOS mobile device, you'll have to download Samsung's official Unpacked 360 View app, which is available for free on Google Play and on the Apple App Store. Needless to say, at the moment, the app doesn't really let you do anything (though it shows an "Experience the event in 360" button, as well as a "Watch traditional live streaming" button). For folks owning a Gear VR, a similar Unpacked 360 View app is available via Oculus Store.
If you do watch the Unpacked 2016 event in 360-degree mode, you'll be able to choose between four spots from where to view the entire action: center stage, stage left, stage right, or the auditorium.
We're not really surprised to see that Samsung will be hosting a 360-degree VR live stream. Besides announcing the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge on February 21, on that day, the company may also unveil a
360-degree VR camera. Moreover, it's said that customers who pre-order the Galaxy S7 or S7 edge will
receive a Gear VR for free.
Samsung's two upcoming Galaxy handsets are far from being the company's best kept secrets. You can learn everything we know about them by checking out our
Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 rumor review (plenty of images included).
