Samsung one-ups Apple iPhone 4S launch in Sydney with $2 Galaxy S II phones, sees people camping
Samsung rented a temporary "popup shop" two doors from an Apple Store in Sydney, and started offering 10 Samsung Galaxy S II phones each day for $2, forming a queue this morning longer than the one in front of the Apple Store for the launch of the new Apple iPhone 4S.
Some of the first to get the phones Monday lined up again to get the next batch of ten on the next morning, so they have been staying there quite a while, and some are even camping outside, a feat usually reserved for iPhone or iPad launch days in front of Apple Stores.
Samsung has obviously rented the store on a short term basis for a few weeks until the dust around the iPhone 4S launch settles down, but it's unclear for how long it will keep doing this publicity stunt. Apple and Samsung are tied in a legal battle Down Under around a patent infringement lawsuit for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and the judge is expected to announce a verdict this week regarding the sales and marketing of Samsung's tablet in Australia.
