Samsung investigating update to KitKat for a bunch of older midrangers like the S III mini or Ace 2
Samsung is apparently investigating whether to bring the latest Android 4.4 KitKat update to its older handsets as well as the new ones. A leaked internal document snapshot shows that at least the Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S III mini, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Ace 2, and the Galaxy Fresh are in the game, with more likely to be listed down the table.
KitKat has been optimized to run fine on devices with as low as 512 MB of RAM, so if manufacturers are willing to put resources and breathe new life in your aging handset, now its the best time. Given that Samsung is the largest phone maker in the world, and it's the whopping number of sold midrangers achieving that feat, a KitKat upgrade for the Galaxy Ace 2, for instance, would make quite a lot of customers happy.
Now this is all seemingly in the planning stages, and some devices in that "investigative" list might not make it, but if you have one of the more popular midrangers of yesteryear, you could be in for a treat.
