Samsung expects to sell 380 million phones this year, double smartphone sales
So what do you do for an encore after a year in which you produced what many call the best Android smartphone ever and quadrupled your smartphone sales to 97.4 million from 2010? If you're Samsung, you just keep on growing. At MWC 2012 in Barcelona, Samsung president and head of Mobile Communications Business J.K. Shin said that the Korean based company plans on doubling its total handset sales to 380 million units. which would be a 16% gain over the 327.4 million rung up last year. In 2010, Samsung sold 280.2 million phones according to Strategy Analytics.
When it comes to smartphones, Samsung is the global leader, selling 97.4 million last year many of which were the Samsung Galaxy S II, which many call the best Android handset ever. 20 million units of the device have been sold in the past 10 months. While Samsung was able to top number 2 Apple, wihich had 93 million in sales last year, Samsung's figure represented an amazing quadruple from 2011's numbers. Samsung president Shin said that his company plans on doubling smartphone sales in 2012. One of the devices that Samsung will offer in an attempt to meet that target will be the Samsung Galaxy S III and while speculation swirls about what the specs will be on that device, it looks like the company has another winner with the recently launched phablet, the Samsung GALAXY Note.
