Samsung Netherlands: No Marshmallow for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S slates
Two years ago, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S series brought some high-end specs to Sammy's tablet line. Both the 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch models are powered by the Exynos 5420 SoC, which carries an octa-core 1.9GHz CPU and the Mali-T628 MP6 GPU. When the slates were launched in 2014, they came pre-installed with Android 4.4.2.
During the Summer of last year, both versions of the tablet were updated to Android 5.0.2; at that point, it seemed inevitable that the tablets would receive the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In fact, earlier this year benchmark tests of the tablets surfaced with Android 6.0.1 running the show. Rumors had the update taking place in the current quarter.
But the Facebook page belonging to Samsung Netherlands revealed some rather dour information on Saturday. According to the site, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 will not be receiving Android 6.0 after all. This might be a bummer for those who own a Galaxy Tab S slate. But even if the Android roller coaster for these tablets ends at Lollipop instead of Marshmallow, the Galaxy Tab S models remain quite serviceable devices.
