Samsung Galaxy S5 Active now available from AT&T

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is now available from AT&T. This variant of Samsung's flagship smartphone, is rugged enough to beat the elements. The phone is shock resistant to protect it from your clumsy butterfingers. It also is resistant against dust and water. Despite rumors that the phone would be IP68 certified, it turns out that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active has the same IP67 certification that the regular Samsung Galaxy S5 has. This means that both variants of the phone can survive a submersion in up to 3.2 feet of water for as long as 30 minutes.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active features a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display, with a 1080 x 1920 resolution, and a quad-core 2.5GHz processor under the hood. 2GB of RAM is on board with 11GB of storage available. A 16MP camera adorns the back of the phone, while a 2MP snapper is on the front. A 2800mAh battery keeps the lights on, and Android 4.4.2 is pre-installed.

For those willing to sign a two-year pact, the handset is priced at $199.99. For those using the AT&T Next 18 plan, the device is zero down and $27.50 a month for 18 months. Those using AT&T Next 12 pay zero down, and $35.75 a month for 12 months. And those purchasing the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active on AT&T, get to save $50 on the purchase of the Samsung Gear Fit through July 24th.

No doubt that there will be some disappointed in the Galaxy S5 Active having the same IP certification as the regular model. But then again, it is priced the same. Perhaps the rumored Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will be the model that brings enhanced water resistance to Sammy's flagship.
