Samsung Galaxy S4 Value Edition launched in Europe

Samsung recently started selling the Galaxy S4 Value Edition (pictured above), a somewhat new smartphone that we first told you about in February. The handset has the model number i9515, and seems to be available only in the Netherlands for now.

What’s the difference between the Galaxy S4 Value Edition i9515 and the original S4? Well, the S4 Value Edition runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box - and that’s about it. Its specs are identical to those of the Galaxy S4 i9505 from last year, including the ageing quad-core 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 processor. It doesn’t look like the new handset offers the latest TouchWiz UX. Thus, considering the fact that the original S4 is now upgradeable to Android KitKat, we don’t really see the point of having an S4 Value Edition.

Dutch retailer Belsimpel asks €398 for an unlocked Galaxy S4 Value Edition i9515 - that’s a bit higher than the price of last year’s S4 (i9505 or i9500 models). So, again, we wonder why the S4 Value Edition even exists.
